Zombie Boy and Cap’n Crunch! Super Awesome Geek Show Interview
on August 26, 2014
I recently had the distinct pleasure of being interviewed by the great John Adams on his fabulous podcast Super Awesome Geek Show! The talk went all the way back to my beginning years as an artist with crayons all the way to what I’m up to these days. John is a tremendous interviewer, he understands and respects all things geek, and loves to spread the geeky goodness to the world. Click here to check it out!

That’s awesome! Now, there be a Crunch I would try .. Argh! Thanx Mark!
Zombie Crunch! I’m glad you like it, John, you inspired it!
Very cool! I shall have to check it out.
Hope you like it, Michael!
That was a very cool interview, Mark. You and John really had some interesting conversations going! Truly excellent!
I’m glad you liked it, Wouter! Thanks for listening!
Well at least I know one thing that I’ll be doing tomorrow! 😀
I’d like to know, Bill, what is YOUR favorite breakfast cereal? Thanks for listening, I hope you enjoy it.
Looks like he’s riding the gravy train.
Cap’n Zombie Crunch. The breakfast cereal for the undead.
I listened to some of it Mark, then Michelle yelled out that dinner was ready.
Dinner trumps all podcasts! There’s only so much a man can apply his attention to at one time and you can’t eat with your ears!
That is true Mark which makes me think of the following song
My mommy said not to put beans in my ears
Beans in my ears, beans in my ears
My mommy said not to put beans in my ears
Beans in my ears
Mothers are so practical & they knew that the beans placed in your ears wouldn’t get digested.
The good news is mommy never said anything about not putting beans in your nose, so you can still have fun!
I’m looking forward to seeing your children’s book, Mark!
Thanks, Joseph! Me, too!
I like your idea on condensing a story/comic. My wife is always telling me to keep it simple!
It’s like a buffet. There’s so much there we want to eat, and we can stack our plates high, but our stomachs can only hold so much. You learn to only put on your plate what you can comfortably consume. (Ok, not always, I admit, lol).
Hey Mark I finally listened to this the other day. It was cool to get learn a bit more about you. It is interesting some minor similarities of our starts in life with liking Peanuts, certain comics, etc. I was lucky in my life to be able to meet Charles Schulz and Jack Kirby two inspirations in my creative life. Also interesting to find out you did some standup. Anyways keep it all going! Cheers.
Hey Rick! Thanks for giving it a listen! I kick myself to this day for not shaking Kirby’s hand at a ComicCon in the early 90s. He was standing there in his booth all alone but I was just too intimidated to walk up to him. I just hovered for a bit and then walked away not wanting to seem stalky. The King has been and always will be an enormous influence, not so much in style, but in impact. Schulz is eternal, and is still potent as he ever was. I’d love to know how you met both of these giants!
With Kirby I was actually driven to his house by a friend so I talked to him there and at a few other appearances in Texas and CA. What bums me out is I didn’t try to get a picture with him. I met Schutz at a party/event in SF. I somehow managed to walk up and shake his hand and say how much he influenced me. Also I actually drew my own Snoopy adventures when I was in 1st through 3rd grades and I still have some of that art work! Funny to look at it now.
Can I just say one word? JEALOUS! Those must be treasured moments, meeting those two creative titans! Not like the time I knocked Rob Schneider to the ground backing out of Golden Apple in LA, when I was promoting one of my Zombie Boy comic books. I’m sorry you didn’t get a snap with Kirby, my friend did and it’s got an honorary spot on his studio wall. I was a big Schulz copier when I started, those characters are so childlike in their construction, really. I think I can see why I thought it was something I could copy at such an early stage in my art career, lol.
