Wanna See My Studio?
on September 19, 2013
The talented Krishna M. Sadasivam was gracious enough to include me in his fabulous Draw Me a Robot series, an insightful exploration of cartoonist’s workspaces and the equipment they use to create. If you’re curious to see where I put Zombie Boy and Gorr through their paces, check it out here. I put my rusty animation skills to the test and created a short animated giant robot clip, which you can see along with photos of where I do my work. Thanks, Krishna, for letting me participate!
Check out Krishna’s site PC Weenies and follow him on Twitter: @pcweenies
Thanks for sharing Mark! I love learning about what other tools cartoonists are using. 😀
Me too. It was so much fun going back through the Draw Me a Robot artists and seeing their workspaces and drawing equipment.
Very cool! I didn’t know you had an animation background.
Yes, many years in commercial animation. I had my own animation studio way back and trained animators with the help of Disney/Famous Studios/Jay Ward veteran animator, Tex Henson.
This is great, Mark! I watched your Cyclops Robot on the look out for Gorr’s yard mines! Awesome!
Learning about your experiences is a real treat. Daniel Barton’s Webcomics Show (just listening now), ComicBookDB.com and now Krishna’s site. Are there any other interviews you’d like to share?
I didn’t know you live in Texas, also! YEEEHAW! XD I have never gotten used to the Texas heat, either. *sweating*
And I learned we have the same likes as far as the creative process: Drawing with a No. 2 pencil on board, inking and working it with Photoshop on a Wacom tablet. Cool!
Your Tex and Walt story was fun to listen to, also. Lot’s of fun and very informative, Mark. Thanks!
PS- Netflix has lots of great stuff on it since you cut the cable! I recommend the Art of the Steal. It’s about the famous Barnes Collection.
I love interviews, too, Joseph! I’ve become an even bigger fan of other artist’s work by listening to them talk about their experiences and how they came to get into the wild world of online comics. You can hear me blather on Comics Coast to Coast with Brian Dunaway, Denver Brubaker, and Matt Ducharme, and on Brandon and Colin Oliver‘s super sensational TWXXD podcast, you can listen here.
Yes, I reside in Texas, it’s a big place full of lots of tooners! Maybe we’ll run into each other at a Texas convention sometime!
That was very interesting! I never realized your lettering was done by hand. It looks so good! Along with our drawings, of course.
Thanks, Peter! I like the little variances that happen when you hand-letter. No two letters are ever exactly the same.
That’s a really cool idea. I wanna “draw me a robot”!!
Well, contact Krishna and let him know, Mike. I know he’s always looking for artists to feature.
